I don’t trust men, every one I’ve ever been close to has either mistreated me, lied to me, or died.

But it’s a difficult task to make it through life without one. So, I simply choose to live life unattached to the men I’ve encountered.

Until I met Ethan, that was no problem.

My name’s Beth, but no one ever calls me by my name.

They call me Jaz.

It’s short for Jasmine.

This is my story. It’s about fighting, f*cking, and falling in love.

In that order.

Brawler
Scott Hildreth

Brawler is so much more than a story about a fighter, and nothing like the normal fighter stories we usually have to read. What’s one of the main differences? Our fighter that is training is none other than Jaz, short for Jasmine. That’s right, we have a female fighter, and she is amazing. I loved this story, from the very first chapter all the way through to the end. Normally when I read a book, I watch to see how far in I am, and how much I have left to read. With Brawler, I was so stuck in the story that I found myself watching the progress through the book thinking, “crap, I can’t be this close to the end already.”

One thing I have come to love from Hildreth’s novels is the attitudes that the characters pack. They aren’t weak and their strengths may not be obvious from the beginning, but you know that they are so much stronger than they let on. This was no different. Hildreth brings us characters that have so many layers and so much to discover. I fell in love with Ethan from the first time we got to see him with Jaz. My love for Ethan aside, I think he easily made the list of most memorable characters. His personality really came through, and at times I felt like I had known him for a long time. Ethan brought me my first tears in this book, I was a little worried that once my heart was cracked it wouldn’t be put back together enough to get through this story. One thing I’ve learned though, is that you can’t doubt Hildreth. He will bring us a story that will make your heart both cry and smile.

Jaz, well, I just want to be like her when I grow up. She’s hot, spunky, packs the sass, and is incredibly strong, both physically and emotionally. Her past is heartbreaking, and really makes you understand her just that much more. While her past wasn’t sunshine and rainbows, you definitely don’t pity her. There really was nothing I found that I didn’t like about Jaz.

Brawler is an all-around amazing story that will make you cry, laugh, and hurt. In the end though, you will be so glad that you spent some of your precious time with these two. Don’t miss the chance to see a fighter story from a different view. It is without a doubt worth the read.
