At sixteen, I lost the only love I’d ever known. Thrown back into the foster system, pregnant and alone, I prayed that you’d come for me and save me from life’s cruelties. Only the next time I saw you, it was too late.
Doing what I needed to do to provide for my son, we were finally brought face to face. It should have been the best day of my life, but it was far from it. It was the worst.
That day a monster took me and held me captive.
I begged for my life. I prayed for my son. I dreamt of you, the memories keeping me alive.
You finally came for me. You were my heart. My Salvation.
But sometimes the heart is too damaged, too broken, to be saved.
And sometimes monsters have a way of coming back to haunt me.
*This is a dark story. It is intended for mature audiences. If you need a trigger warning then this book isn’t for you. I have other books of mine that I’d recommend like Current or Tainted by Crazy, but not this one.
Abby McCarthy is reader and a lover of words. She is a blogger turned author and released her first novel in May 2014. She is a mother of three, a wife and a dog person. She has always written, sometimes poetry, sometimes just to vent about failed relationships, however in parenthood she has found her voice to help keep her sanity. Words have flowed from her, to review and with the support of amazing friends in the Indie community she has decided to pursue her dream of writing! She loves to write and read romance, because isn’t that something we all yearn for? Whether it be flowers and hand holding or just the right tug on your hair. Isn’t that what life is about? The human connection?
Cut Wide Open by Abby McCarthy was one wild and dark ride! A very dark one. Heed the trigger warning if you prefer lighter books. I love dark reads and they are some of my top favorites, but I did find myself having to put the book down and take a breath at times. Fair warning.
Charlie’s life has not been easy. As a foster child, she has never truly fit in anywhere, until she meets Gunner Reed. She watches him for years, until they become friends and allies. Gunner is the first person to truly be there for her. And as they spend time together, their connection changes, until one day they are more to each other.
Then their lives are turned upside down. Gunner finds himself as part of a MC and Charlie is alone and pregnant. But they survive and move forward in their own way. Charlie’s journey was so sad, but even so she was strong and determined to make the world better for herself and her son. Gunner was tough, but also gentle and caring. He protected what was his at all costs.
Once they find each other again, they are once again torn apart. A monster wants Charlie for his own. What she endures is heartbreaking and terrifying. It would be enough to tear a person to pieces. Can Gunner find her in time to save her? Can they find a second chance at love or is too late? I am looking forward to other books in this series. I love MC books and read them as fast as I can and Abby McCarthy gave us a look into an MC I am looking forward to getting to know. I found this story to be emotional, raw and very dark at times. There were times I felt the story drifting, but overall a good story that will keep you interested.
