He was as magnetic as a deadly hurricane to the shore.
Carson Cole was my first love. The boy I’d shared my whole self with.
He was the man who’d taken the other part of my soul and drowned it in the sea we’d grown up in.
And now he’s back. Ten years later, and the demons of our past are still haunting every breath trapped between us.
She was as wild as the horses who owned the beach highways we drove down.
Blake Sayer was the beautiful daredevil who had me wrapped around her finger from the time we were seven.
Until a horrible accident stole every piece of joy from her life.
Ten years later, she’s a shell of the girl she once was, and it’s all my fault. The whispers of our history shackle her to the island I left behind.
Just like lost years and unspoken words, love had slipped from our fingers like grains of sand. We’d barely made it out alive last time, was it even possible to reconstruct the shattered pieces of us?

Ghost in His Eyes
Carrie Aarons

I have to admit when I read the blurb for Ghost in His Eyes by Carrie Aarons, I was expecting a very angsty and heart-breaking read. What I got was a sweet and charming second chance at love story. Don’t get me wrong, what happened between the main characters was heart-wrenching, but overall, this is a heartwarming read.

Life has not been good for Blake Sawyer the last ten years. After a series of tragic events, she barely recognizes herself. Withdrawn, lost and broken, she is barely living. Though she is lonely, the demons that haunt her cripple any chance to move forward. My heart broke for her. She lives her life with a heaviness that consumes her.

Carson Cole’s life changed in a blink of an eye. He had it all. The girl. His best friend. A future to look forward too. Then tragedy strikes and he loses everything that matters to him. Torn apart, Carson leaves and does not look back. But he never forgot the girl who owned his heart. I loved Carson. Even with a broken heart and so much loss, he was sweet, caring and patient. His love was expressed with every word and action he took.

And now Carson is back. Blake is not ready for him, but it seems like she has no choice. So much tragedy and loss surround them. Can they find a way to overcome all that stands between them?

I loved how Carson and Blake reconnected. It was not easy, so much had to be acknowledged and worked through, but sometimes love wins out. We get snippets of their past and the tragedy that drove the apart as we see them reconnect. I found this second chance at love book engaging and charming.
