A week before Christmas, Adeline is all set for her best friend’s wedding, even though she dreads having to go to it alone. But when she’s given a Christmas wish that could change her future forever, she’s whisked away to the past, to a completely different place and time. It’s also when she meets him, William Blair, the man who steals her heart.

As their relationship grows, Adeline realizes that true love does exist. What she doesn’t know is that her wish can’t last forever, that soon she’ll have to leave the past behind. Will Adeline and William find their way back to each other? Or will their love have to stay where it all began . . . in 1865? With mistletoe and Christmas magic, anything’s possible.

It Must've Been the Mistletoe
L.P. Dover

It Must’ve Been the Mistletoe by L.P. Dover was so different for me than her normal stuff, but it was a perfect read heading into the holidays! It was sweet and charming and considering it was partly a historical romance, which is not my normal forte, though I read it here and there, I really enjoyed it. Don’t let that keep you from reading this story! This story is told in past/present stages and falls under contemporary romance.

Adeline loves history and all it represents, she is a high school history teacher after all. But she has given up on love, because for her, it would be only the true kind of love. While at her best friend’s party a week before her nuptials, Adeline spends the evening talking to the wedding planner. She ends up giving her magical locket.

William is the true meaning of a workaholic. He moved to California to grow their family’s real estate business and he has been very successful. However, that success has come at the cost of his personal life. But when his father is no longer well enough to care of the family business back home, he returns to help.

With Adaline’s best friend’s wedding looming, everyone seems to want to play matchmaker, but Adeline has given up on love. Even so, her best friend wants to introduce her to her future brother-in-law. But neither is really looking for anything permanent or long term. But when they find themselves in the past, will they finally find true love?

It Must’ve Been the Mistletoe was a cute and charming read. It was perfect read with the upcoming holidays. There is the twist with the historical aspect, but the story flowed well, and the characters were very likeable. I have always been a fan of L.P. Dover and she did not disappoint with this poignant story about love, family and friendships during the holiday season.
