I wasn’t supposed to be in town for long. Get in, get the job done, and get out.

Easy. Simple.

She was never supposed to happen, and her baby girl sure as hell wasn’t part of my plans. I didn’t need the complication and I certainly wasn’t planning on staying.

“Mommy’s scared, Ryan. Don’t leave.”

Five words. That was all it took for my life to change forever.

About Anna Brooks

Anna began writing when she thought the world would want to hear her sick lyrics through song.Since then, she’s realized her childhood dream wasn’t so far-fetched, just misguided. Now she writes romance with real emotions and happy endings. If Anna isn’t writing or reading, she can be found by a space heater drinking a ridiculous amount of Diet Dr Pepper. She also likes to hang out with her husband and two boys. If it wasn’t for them, she wouldn’t ever leave the house.

Anna was born in Wisconsin but now lives in the Evergreen state.

Heartbreaker by Anna Brooks is a Bulletproof Butterfly novella, however, can truly be read as a standalone. I did not read Bulletproof Butterfly, though I did add it to my TBR, but never considered myself lost at all.

In Heartbreaker, we meet Opal, a twenty-one-year-old single mother and her brother-in-law’s friend, Ryan Breaker. Opal had such a huge loss at such a young age and finds it very difficult to open up again and let someone in her and Liv’s life again. Ryan has been disappointed in the women in his life in the past. They do not seem to understand him and what he does, so he plans to be alone for the rest of his life.

When Opal and Ryan meet, the chemistry is off the charts, but Opal firmly denies it and tries to stay away from Ryan. Ryan was only supposed to be in town for a short time for a case he was working on but finds himself staying far longer than planned. It seems Opal and her daughter have dug themselves into his heart.

I enjoyed Heartbreaker, it was a quick read, with lots of angst and a bit of suspense. I did find Opal a bit frustrating, however, as we learn her story, we begin to understand why she is so afraid to let someone in. I did, however, love Ryan. He was a total alpha, strong, protective, possessive and very caring to both Opal and Liv. A great quick read, with a good story and very likeable characters!
