Best-selling Author Marni Mann knew she was going to be a writer since middle school. While other girls her age were daydreaming about teenage pop stars, Mann was fantasizing about penning her first novel. She crafts sexy, titillating stories that weave together her love of darkness, mystery, passion, and human emotion. A New Englander at heart, she now lives in Sarasota, Florida with her husband and their two dogs who subsequently have been characters in her books. When she’s not nose deep in her laptop working on her next novel, she’s scouring for chocolate, sipping wine, traveling to new locations, and devouring fabulous books.
This is my first Marni Mann book and I have to say that when I finished I was more than a little upset. Upset that all of my "friends" have let me go this long without forcing one of her books in my hands. Although this book isn't titled to technically be part of a series, it does appear to be an interconnected standalone about a group of friends. Friends that I plan to get to know better ASAP. I didn't feel lost or even a little distracted by what I've missed, but I can say without a doubt that I will be going back to read the others.
I am absolutely and positively in love with everything about this book. I loved the story line, the dialogue, the banter, the emotion, the romance. I just simply loved it all. I was completely captivated by Max and Eve's story. I wanted to love them and I wanted to hate them. There were times when those two were not mutually exclusive. I felt frustration for both Max and Eve but I also felt this need to follow them to the end of their journey. I rooted for them and my heart hurt for them. I wanted to kiss them and shake them all at the same time.
This book was so well written that I got totally lost in the pages. I can honestly say that I did not want to put it down. I know we use that phrase a lot and sometimes it can be an exaggeration. In this case, for me, it's the farthest thing from it. The emotion and the passion in this book are perfect. It's sexy and insanely hot, but it's also full of emotion and even raw at times. The characters are witty and smart and stubborn to a fault. They gave me tummy fluttering moments and panty melting ones too. Their journey was full of hurdles but it was true and it was real.
I finished Contracted with a smile and an undying need to go back to the beginning. I don't think tissues are necessary but be prepared for all the feels as you read this one. I hope you give this one a chance.
