One of the BEST books that I have read this year!! It was Riveting!! I just couldn't put it down until I finished it!! It's not just a book about a failing marriage,it's about self worth, and how you feel about yourself! It's about trust, and seeing how people take things for granted! It's about selfishness and selflessness! The fine line between Love and Hate!!
Brandon and Shayla did not marry under the best of circumstances. Shayla became pregnant at 19,and they married. Neither one really had time to spread their wings,go and have fun, experience the college life. They both loved their daughter,Aberdeen,to the moon and back!! But,it takes maturity, and a lot of trust to make a marriage work! You have to not only love each other, but also love yourself! I felt that Brand was not only immature,he was also selfish! He really took Shayla for granted! She had become his "Unmerry Maid!" She took care of everything! He felt that providing shelter, food, and an occasional roll in the hay was his responsibility! His friends did not like her,and dissed her,and their marriage whenever he was with them. This really made me mad!! How can "friends" talk about,or disrespect something they know nothing about!! Well, except for Brand's feelings and thoughts about his "nag" of a wife!! Poor Shayla!!
Shayla developed trust issues on top of not liking herself anymore. She did not like who she had become or what she looked like. Constantly feeling unattractive, thinking about Brand's late party nights with his friends, and if he was cheating. I don't blame her at all!! I would have put the have also tried to put a kabosh on the partying!!! Once in awhile,a night with your friends is OK,a good thing!! But,I felt Brand was out to purposely hurt Shayla! That's NOT OK!! It made me want to give him a slap to the side of his head!!! Shayla on the other hand, was insecure about their relationship. The constant bickering would have have had my feet walking!!! AWAY!!! Other than wanting to SHAKE them both,I really wanted them to work out their problems! I wanted them all to be happy again, have their HEA ending! It takes a Heart Stopping event for Shayla to take action!!
Their marriage will either be saved, or they'll head to Divorce Court.
I Highly Recommend This Book! It is SOO true to life!! I'm sure some people will even shake their heads in recognition. The Author does a Fantastic Job in presenting BOTH POV's equally!! Which side will you be on?
