This is a post-apocalyptic story set about one hundred years in the future where the world is a harsh and dangerous place to exist. Hadyn is one of the survivors and also a member of a long thought extinct amazingly powerful race known as the Drakon. He’s been hunted forever by a sadistic group who call themselves slayers and they will stop at nothing to see him dead. Hadyn lives a solitary existence and hasn’t let anyone get close to him in a very long time to avoid losing anyone else he loves. That all changes the day he comes to the rescue of a young woman named Edana who is being threatened by men who intend on hurting her.  I loved how Edana wasn’t afraid at all once she discovered what Hadyn really was and how she followed right behind him and wasn’t bothered at all even when he intentionally tried to scare her off. The immediate connection between these two was a definite light in all of the darkness that exists in this strange world and I found myself hoping for them to end up together from the very beginning. The slayers are really a brutal and ruthless bunch and I was more than ready for their little group to be thrown to the winds by all these kick butt dragons! This story had me at dragons and I wasn’t disappointed at all! I will admit that in the very beginning I was having a little bit of a problem following everything that was going on, but after I got into the swing of things I found that this only added to the disjointed feeling of the entire time and the world that these characters are living in so everything made more sense. I definitely wouldn’t want to live in the world portrayed by this author, but if I had to I would at least want to do it with a dragon by my side! There are a couple of surprises thrown in throughout this story that kept things interesting and overall it was an enjoyable read. I recommend checking this one out, especially if you’re a fan of paranormal stories that include dragons.
