When I opened my heart, it was for the men I couldn’t have.
The unattainable ones.
The ones who would hurt me.
A vicious cycle I couldn’t seem to stop.
But I had a new resolve.
Focus on my career.
And then I met him.
A wounded widower with two young kids.
He was exactly everything I was avoiding.
So I did my best to stay away.
But then he kissed me.
And I fell.
Hard for a man who would never be mine…
A man who was broken beyond repair.
A man who would break me.
Ava Harrison is a USA Today and Amazon bestselling author.
When she’s not journaling her life, you can find her window shopping, cooking dinner for her family, or curled up on her couch reading a book.
This is my first book by this author and, although it can be read as a standalone, it was pretty obvious to me in the first chapter that Jace and the other characters had been introduced in a previous book.
I enjoyed the story and there were definitely tons of emotions from beginning to end. These characters are dealing with some heavy stuff and so naturally things get a little tense. I did find the first couple of chapters to be repetitive and almost put it down for fear that the entire book was going to just go in circles. There were a few steamy scenes but the overall feel of the book was, honestly, kind of depressing. I had a hard time connecting with the characters and spent a good portion of the book disliking one or the other.
In the end, I didn't love it and I didn't hate it. I did struggle a bit to get through it but I think that most will find it to be worth the read.
